about

So much of human activity, including artistic pursuits, feels like a desperate scramble for some kind of permanence: an attempt to buttress ourselves from the void. I make music to clarify my existence, to articulate what I feel is happening to me, yet when it’s done, I can barely remember the process or what it meant to me at the time. This song reflects on the simultaneous feeling of meaning and compulsion I experience in songwriting.

lyrics

I’m inscribing
all the things I own:
your name, my name.

I really care a lot,
you know?
It’s just so hard to show.

I found happiness.
It makes no difference.
I saw the ending.
So sad how life becomes a chore.

Now I’m finished,
so I begin again.
Found another way
to distract myself.

It’s just a party trick.
It’s just my work music.
