about

Much of this album was written over a winter in Inverness, California, a beautiful small town within the Point Reyes National Seashore. In the room where I worked, we hung a print Alison found at an antique store in Brooklyn. The lyrics for this closing song come from that print, which, as far as I’ve been able to discover, the artist pulled from a 1930s Christian summer camp handbook. I’ve never been drawn to adapting poetry to music before, but this one came together naturally. I loved how the language evoked the land where I was working—and Leonard Cohen and Roy Orbison. This song is dedicated to Arigato.

lyrics

How sweet
to walk
in the afterglow,
where the pines
sing low.
And the love
of the master
is over it all.

When a young moon sails in a sea of blue,
to walk alone with my dreams of you.
