about

The "If You’re on the Water" EP, while self-released, is The Saxophones' first studio recording. It was recorded and mixed on an analog Toft console by Cameron Spies of Radiation City over the course of a spring week in Portland, Oregon. It features Alexi Erenkov on guitar, vocals, and woodwinds; his wife, Alison Alderdice on percussion and vocals; and his longtime friend and collaborator Richard Laws on bass, vibraphone, and Crumar synthesizer.

The title track was inspired by a summer week that saw suicide, the transition of a relationship, and Alexi and his Father’s nearly fatal boating accident. The album pays tribute to the currents of beauty, sorrow and regret that run through our lives.

Track Name: If You're on the Water
When you lit that pipe,
it caused me a terrible fright.
The flame burned my hand,
I kicked my leg, you took my hand.

If you're on the water, water, water, water, water beware.
If you're on the water, water, water, water, water take care.

When you left that boat,
thought you'd sink if I couldn't float.
Would you lose your guilt,
if I was your daughter? Oh, father.

If you're on the water, water, water, water, water beware.
If you're on the water, water, water, water, water take care.

When you climbed that tree,
they should've never left you alone.
I wished I heard you shout.
I would've rushed down at the slightest sound.

If you're on the water, water, water, water, water beware.
If you're on the water, water, water, water, water take care.
Track Name: New Tradition
I gave in to a new tradition.
I came of age in an age of steel so well.
Oh well, we'll just see it through.

I found a way.
Everyday, I practice my vocal stylings.
But I haven't shown you my best part;
it's too hard, and I'm quick to judge.
Track Name: Best Boy
Who's to say what I mean?
I'm just a body that feels this way,
and you know it hurts when you speak at me and I don't understand.

There's a pain in my teeth, there's a pain in my feet,
there's a feeling of dread I can't reach, but it feels good.
I'm still young.
I swear I know how to have fun.
There's a pity party happening tonight at my house.
You may be invited, just be sure you don't open my mouth.

Though I came with questions,
I've resisted answers from the start of it,
cause my religious leanin' is all about the feelin'.
